Walker, Texas Ranger
Modern-day Texas Ranger, Cordell Walker's independent crime-solving methods have their roots in the rugged traditions of the Old West. Walker's closest friend is former Ranger, C.D. Parker, who retired after a knee injury, and now owns "C.D.'s," a Country/Western saloon/restaurant. Rookie Ranger, James "Jimmy" Trivette is an ex-football player who bases his crime-solving methods on reason and uses computers and cellular phones.
Star Trek
Capt. Kirk, Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy and the USS Enterprise crew seek out new civilizations in this seminal sci-fi series. The ship's five-year mission may have only lasted three seasons on NBC, but its impact has proved timeless. By the 1970s, its rabid fans---dubbed Trekkers---turned the show into a pop-culture phenomenon and syndication juggernaut that yielded a merchandising boom, a number of hit sequel and prequel spin-off TV series, a successful movie franchise and even a children's cartoon.
Star Trek: The Next Generation
A new crew boards a revamped USS Enterprise in the first spin-off from the '60s cult classic. Set some 70 years after the Capt. Kirk era, the syndicated sequel follows the seven-year trek of Capt. Jean-Luc Picard and his colorful subordinates (including a Klingon!) as they encounter new life forms and foes, including the Borg, Q and the Ferengi. Picard and his sidekicks would continue their voyages in a series of theatrical films.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
Different races try to coexist peacefully in the third 'Star Trek' spin-off. This one takes place on a 24th-century space station that serves as a frontier town on the edge of a wormhole that enables travelers to journey vast distances in short periods of time. The syndicated series included several characters from its predecessor, 'Star Trek: The Next Generation,' and had a healthy seven-season run.
Star Trek: Voyager
A starship is stranded in the uncharted Delta Quadrant in this fourth 'Star Trek' series, the first to feature a female captain. Here, the crew grudgingly teams with Maquis rebels to try to return to Earth after Voyager is hurtled 70,000 light-years from Federation space. The show's two-hour premiere coincided with the UPN network's launch. Genevieve Bujold was originally cast as Janeway, but was replaced by Kate Mulgrew after only a few days of filming.
Renegade
Framed for murder, Detective Reno Raines becomes a fugitive bounty hunter who fights crime while trying to clear his name. His troubles began after he testified about police corruption, leading Lt. Donald Dixon to set him up.
Tour of Duty
It's Vietnam 1967 and veteran sergeant Zeke Anderson leads the young, new recruits of Bravo Company as they confront the terrifying reality of jungle combat. 'Tour of Duty,' which marked the first time network television had attempted a weekly series based on the Vietnam War, addressed the conflict from the soldiers' point of view. Battle scenes were bloody and several main characters died, but the series focused on the bonds formed between comrades in harm's way.
Combat!
An unusually realistic (for the 1960s) WWII drama following a U.S. Army infantry platoon after the D-Day invasion. Superbly acted and photographed, the series also made effective use of actual combat footage. Some of its best episodes were written and directed by Robert Altman, who, three years after the series left the air, directed the movie version of 'M*A*S*H.'
